Will not work with Schwartz style safety. The steel available today is of much higher quality than what was available in 1911 when the 1911 pistol was first produced. Improvements to the entire manufacturing process include better alloys, more controlled furnaces, vacuum heat treat, better tooling, and finite element analysis-all of which EGW uses in production. EGW-specific Improvements to the original Ballester Extractor: EGW found that the extractor rides up the relief groove on the ammunition casing with each round fired: this dulls the hook from constantly banging the case, over time tension is lost, leading to a jammed case which adversely affects accuracy. EGW has fixed all 3 of these problems by reducing the distance from the bolt face to the extractor hook. They found that most hook designs are cut straight at a right angle. They machined theirs at an acute angle so that there is more surface area for the hook to bite into the case. Right angles are a weak point on other extractors so they put radii on both sides of theirs to increase strength. The hook is machined with a special cutter that leaves a nice clean radius in the inside corner where most extractors fail. Lastly their extractor is vacuum heat treated yielding great spring properties and the capability to maintain tension for 70,000+ rounds.

Der Stahl, der heute verfügbar ist, ist von viel höherer Qualität als der, der 1911 verfügbar war, als die Pistole 1911 zum ersten Mal hergestellt wurde. Zu den Verbesserungen des gesamten Herstellungsprozesses gehören bessere Legierungen, besser kontrollierte Öfen, Vakuumwärmebehandlung, bessere Werkzeuge und Finite-Elemente-Analyse, die EGW in der Produktion einsetzt. EGW-spezifische Verbesserungen am ursprünglichen Ballester-Extraktor: EGW stellte fest, dass der Extraktor bei jedem Schuss die Entlastungsnut am Munitionsgehäuse hinauffährt: Dies verhindert, dass der Haken ständig gegen das Gehäuse schlägt und die Spannung mit der Zeit nachlässt, was zu einem eingeklemmten Gehäuse führt was sich negativ auf die Genauigkeit auswirkt. EGW hat alle drei dieser Probleme behoben, indem der Abstand von der Schraubenfläche zum Abziehhaken verringert wurde. Sie stellten fest, dass die meisten Hakendesigns im rechten Winkel gerade geschnitten sind. Sie bearbeiteten ihre in einem spitzen Winkel, damit der Haken mehr Fläche zum Einbeißen in das Gehäuse hat.
